Knife attack on stallion
Matthew Thomas with injured horse Billie
Matthew Thomas with injured horse Billie

A HORSE injured in a vicious knife attack may take months to recover.

The black and white stallion, called Billie, is owned by nine-year-old Matthew Thomas, of Cilrhedyn, near Llanfyrnach.

The schoolboy found the animal with a slash injury on its shoulder last Monday and has been spending all his spare time looking after him.

Matthew's mum, Julie Young, said: "He's very upset about this and cannot understand how anyone could do such a thing.

"The vet said the healing process could take sometime as the horse cannot walk at the moment. He has completely lost the use of one leg and it could take months for him to walk properly again. But Matthew is determined to see him through it."

She appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or has any information about the attack, to contact the police.

"We have reported it, but there is precious little to go on and we need any help anyone can give to find who did this," she added.

This is the second similar attack in the area in recent weeks. Just two miles away, in Tegryn, a young pony owned by Alison and David Hayes, was slashed across its face.

Any information about these attacks can be given to police on 0845 330 2000.
