No place to hide

KIDS who misbehave in Cardigan will find no hiding place as police step up patrols in all the local trouble spots.

Anti-social behaviour by the young has been targeted by officers in a crackdown over the last few months and warnings have been issued to more than 15 offenders.

Beer, lager and spirits have been confiscated from underage drinkers.

Now police are set to patrol new hotspots and are asking the public to help with information.

PCSO Ricci Hart told locals at a meeting of Cardigan PACT (Partners and Communities Together) last week that some key areas of town had been patrolled by officers up to four times a day as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

"We have concentrated on a number of places where youngsters are often reported to be causing trouble, such as the Rugby Club and Victoria Gardens, the Guildhall steps, Netpool and Finch Square. As a result 15 verbal warnings have been issued and several letters of warning have been issued to the parents of young offenders," he said.

Locals have asked police to patrol a number of other trouble spots around the town, including the infants and junior schools, which were damaged by vandals over last weekend.

Sgt Alison Rees, who is in charge of the local Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "We will target specific areas for patrols if people tell us where problems are occurring. We do rely on the public to help us in this. If there is trouble, call us and we will mark the hotspots and increase patrols in those areas."
