Ceredigion AM Elin Jones has welcomed confirmation that there remains a need to provide beds at Tregaron and Cardigan Community Hospitals.
The Plaid Cymru AM's remarks came after the One Wales Government's Minister for Health and Social Services, Edwina Hart AM, announced the results of the review conducted by Dr Alan Axford - the Medical Director of the then Ceredigion and Mid Wales NHS Trust - into the alignment of healthcare services in Ceredigion.
Following the Health Minister's announcement at the Senedd, Ceredigion's Elin Jones AM said: "I welcome the confirmation in Dr Axford's report that Ceredigion's community hospitals and healthcare facilities at Cardigan, Tregaron and Aberaeron continue to have an important role to play in providing local healthcare services. I am also glad that the report indicates that there is a current need to retain hospital beds at Tregaron and Cardigan.
"I now hope that all interested parties will continue to work together to bring the proposed new community hospital at Tregaron and the new integrated healthcare facility at Aberaeron to fruition.
"However, I am very concerned with the continual need to agree on an acceptable site for Cardigan's new community hospital and this matter needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. I agree with the Health Minister that a new site in the Lampeter / Felinfach area is not the preferred option and this in addition would jeopardise the Tregaron development".
